Songs to wake up to: Fritz Kalkbrenner – Ruby Lee

Released earlier this spring this is a cover of a Bill Withers original piece, if you’re in the know the bassline gives it away without listening to the lyrics. Fritz somehow manages to keep the warmth while transfusing it with electronic sonic and sounds. A mastery that he and his brother perfected to bliss, warm and fuzzy techno, but with his own singing it even adds to the soulful experience.

Previously this series featured Nicolas Jaar for a morning song, then followed by a wake-up call from Gaiser for the wee hours in the morning. This is for a rainy afternoon, after having taken a nap on our beloved sofa. Nothing to suit it better than listening to the tale of Ruby Lee.

Also check out the Suol Mates Mix tape released in March – excellent set!
